SCIENTIFIC APPRENTICESHIP

As a nuclear Scientist, you will be working at the forefront of the nuclear research and development programme that makes NNL one of the world leaders in nuclear energy.

DISCOVER THE ROLE

Scientific technicians are needed to test and calibrate equipment as well as undertake investigations and analyse samples.

You will work with hazardous substances, you will learn about health and safety procedures and safe working practices.

During the Apprenticeship:

  • You will be aware of health and safety regulations
  • You will be improving your working relationship skills both across the company and within your project teams
  • You will manage information and use computers
  • You are likely to work with hazardous substances
  • You will manage data and produce reports
  • You will create presentations on work you have completed

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

  • Calibrations

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS WILL I OBTAIN?

Advanced:

  • BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Applied Science
  • NVQ Level 3 in Laboratory and Associated Technical Activities
  • HNC in Applied Chemistry
  • Functional Skills, Personal Learning and Thinking Skills/Employee Rights and Responsibilities


Higher:

This is a Degree Apprenticeship, which means NNL will pay for you to gain a Degree in Chemistry, and we’ll pay you a salary while you’re learning.

  • BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Applied Science

  • HNC in Applied Chemistry
  • Foundation Degree in Applied Chemistry or Degree in Chemistry

WHAT DO I NEED?

5 GCSE’s A-C including Maths, English and ICT.

A Levels or equivalent BTEC one of which must be Chemistry.

Must be 18 or over. (By September of year of joining)



KEY FACTS

Duration: 3 Year programme

Location: Cumbria, Preston

Training:

Straight into facility working alongside experienced personnel to develop your skills. You will then study on a day release with a 6 weekly assessment in the workplace, attending college one day per week whilst on site for the other four days working on exciting real projects within the business.

Salary:

Starting salary (dependant on age): Competitive. We value our apprentices highly, so we believe in paying them more than the minimum wage.

Scientific Technicians can earn up to £28,144 on completion (based on 2016 – 17 salary)
